چکیده
Retrospective analysis of 119 endoscopically proven cases of duodenal ulcer, treated with Famotidin (40 mg),Cimetidine (800 mg) and Ranitidine (300 mg) at bed -time, showed heating rates of 91, 74 and 68%, respectively, at 6 weeks. Twenty patients were followed up for one year on maintenance dose and endoscoped at 3, 6 and 12 months. Despite taking the drug regularly a relapse rate of 14% was seen with Famotjdine and 50% each with Cimetidine and Ranitidine. Though relapse was seen with all three drugs, with or without maintenance, but Famotidine showed better healing and less relapse rate with maintenance therapy (p <0.05) (JPMA 38: 319 , 1988).

H2 receptor antagonist or H. pylori eradication?
To assess the healing and relapse rate of duodenal ulcer (DU) treated with H2 receptor antagonists in helicobacter pylori (HP) positive vs negative cases, we analysed 95 cases of endoscopically proven duodenal ulcer. H. pylori colonization was found in 73 (77%) patients before treatment. No difference was observed in the pre-treatment characteristics between patients with HP positive and HP neg...
متن کاملAcid suppression in duodenal ulcer: a meta-analysis to define optimal dosing with antisecretory drugs.
FVMany different dosage schedules of antisecretory drugs for the treatment of duodenal ulcer are recommended. The relationship between degree of acid suppression and therapeutic efficacy has not been precisely defined for these drugs. We have examined the association between suppression of intragastric acidity and duodenal ulcer healing rates for a number of therapeutic regimens. For the H2 rec...

Risk factors for delayed duodenal ulcer healing during treatment with ranitidine (300 mg daily) were examined in a multicentre German study of 1923 patients with endoscopically proved, recurrent duodenal ulceration. Healing rates, per protocol, were 39.5% at two weeks, 70.9% at four weeks, and 93.2% at eight weeks. Prospective testing of five, predefined risk factors indicated that smoking (p =...
